Art for Social Change

Art can provide a means of expressing emotions on a wide scale such as occurred during the terrorist attacks in New York City. When there were no words to commuicate the level of grief and mourning, community scale art projects allowed for some processing of shared trauma.

Art can also be utilized to communicate a message or as a means of undertaking social action. Art is a visual language which can transcend the boundaires of age, race, socio-economic status and allow people to have a voice about the issues that impact their lives. Art brings people together in new and dynamic ways, community art projects contribute greatly to a sense of belonging and wellbeing and encourage social responsibility.
